Decorated for Christmas today, and watched the Stillers stink things up. We had a really beautiful day today, and I should have run while the temps were nicer, but sometimes, it’s just too hard to get out the door. I waited until dark and ran in the cold. Yuck.
Nothing exciting to report. Felt good. 12 miles is a long way on the walkway. It’s boring, but you don’t have to worry about traffic or carrying hydration/food.
Speaking of….Consumed: (2) Clif Bars (Oatmeal Raisin (My Fav) and Chocolate Chip Peanut Crunch) (2) Clif Shot Bloks (Cran-Razz) (1) Clif Shot (Razz) and approx 22oz. water.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

(Today’s music in honor of TomCat)
Nothing special to report out on. Ran 16 miles at a nice slow pace, took an ice bath, and tonight I feel like maybe I never ran at all today. Sersly, I have no aches or pains. I did hurt the top of my foot a little bit, but I think it was just because of the new shoes and not having them laced tight enough. I stopped after a couple miles and tightened them, and the damage had already been done, but I don’t think I made it any worse.
Oh, I ran sick also. I am not sure if it was the smartest move ever. I got a bad cough and some congestion. I guess we’ll see. Recovery week coming up. Climbing to peak week with only 2 more long long runs left. Tick tock tick tock…
Consumed (2) Clif Bars (Chocolate Chip peanut Crunch - Meh and Oatmeal Raisin - YUM!) (4 or 5) Clif Shot Bloks (Cran-Razz - Not bad) Approx 16 oz of diluted Gatorade and 30 oz of water.

I went to the Dr’s this morning. He determined that I have a mild case of Achilles Tendinitis and prescribed an anti-inflammatory and PT. He said I should reduce my training for the time being also. But he added after he said that, that his running patients are the least compliant patients, and rarely take his advice on training. He did give me some heel riser pads for my shoes.
After the dr. visit we went to Endurance Athletics in Altoona. Lisa was great and extremely helpful in getting me just the right shoes. I ended up with a pair of Brooks Radius 6. I also picked up a Fuel Belt and Lisa threw in a free Clif Shot and Clif Shot Blok and a few sample packs of Sport Shield and Blister Shield. Holy Smokes! What a great little store! I actually learned a lot about the different types of running shoes (stability, cushioning, motion control, etc.)
So I got home and went out to try the new shoes out. Slight drizzle, but it was actually a pretty warm, comfortable night for running. We had a lot of rain today and I had heard a few flash flood warnings, so I was a little concerned when the creek that parallels the walkway path was running fast and only about 2-3 feet below the walkway (It’s usually 10-15 feet below). 5 miles into the run the bottom dropped out of the sky and don’t think I’ve ever been out in rain that heavy. It was sheeting off of my head and running into my eyes so much that I couldn’t see for a while and actually ran off the 3′ wide path twice. I suppose I should have stuck it out for the last 2 miles of the run, but the rain was beyond ridiculous, so even though I knew I’d regret giving in….I did. And I regret it. I feel like I failed an easy mental test tonight. I suppose I could say I was following dr’s orders and backing off a bit, but I think I need to remember the sting of this one.

It was a beautiful day. I forgot how much I like running in the morning before anyone is even up and around. Miles 12 - 14 were teh suxor. Probably because I was back on the walkway (Thankfully it started raining a bit, that was nice).
Note: Since as far as I know, my brother is the only person that reads this regularly, the following route description will only make sense to him (I doubt it will even make sense to him).
My route went 1/4 mile down walkway, down Maple Avenue past the school, past Lezzers, back down the walkway, 1 lap around the high school track (Can you tell I was just wingin it and running wherever my feet took me?) (At this point I was a bit distracted by the police and firemen extracting a car from being wrapped around a traffic signal pole after it had caught fire…rubberneck) Up past the Harley Shop past the old green house, down past Kohlepps and out to the sewage treatment plant (Hi-dee-ho Coach! I’m giving it 110%! (He’d be proud)). Over the train tracks and 1 lap around Triangle Tech’s parking lot. I backtracked all the way back to Kohlepps and then went down past the YMCA and back to the walkway. 1 Lap on the walkway and I was done. Here is a link to the route: Gmap
Consumed (1) Power Bar (Chocolate Peanut Crunch - quite good) and (1) Clif Bar (Oatmeal Raisin - YUM!) Approx 20 oz of Gatorade and 20 oz of water.
AT felt ok. Still not feeling great but at least I can run. After I got back I took a 20 minute ice bath. WOOHOO fun. Actually it wasn’t as bad as it was scary at first. After the 1st minute everything goes numb. It seersly helps with the sore legs.

For the level of condition that I have now, that was without a doubt the hardest physical thing I have ever done…
I never felt a point where I hit the wall. It was really a gradual progression of fatigue and soreness.
I think I bit off more than I could chew. I thought the marathon would be easier…
(My shins) started to hurt in the second half, especially the right one. I could barely walk up here, because the calves are completely knotted up.
